Skipping a Course

Somehow, it has become a growing desire to skip a course in an effort to take calculus earlier.  The course of choice is precalculus, as it is sometimes viewed as "review", or "needless material".  I couldn't disagree more.  Precalculus is just that - what you need to know for success in calculus (among other really cool topics that aren't used in an AP calculus course).  For the student interested in mathematics, the mindset should be "I want to take as many courses as possible", rather than "skip to get ahead".  The path of mathematics is not linear, and so skipping ahead does not make sense.  I don't understand the desire to skip a course, nor do I encourage this.  However, for those that are determined to skip precalculus honors and move right into calculus, I figure that it would be beneficial to study the precalculus book over the summer with someone who has been teaching the subject for the last 6 years.

If you have decided that this is what you want to do, I will work with you over the summer and prepare quizzes for you to mark your progress.  You cannot earn units or a grade from me, but I will teach the material and answer your questions.
